There is still a long list of outstanding athletes here. Two of the heat leaders arriving into Day 2 are Campbell Ashton and Amin Riyazati, who have accumulated important chip piles. James Obst, a two-time WSOP bracelet winner with a decorated poker career, and Daniel Neilson, a finalist in the WSOP Paradise Main Event, are also elite echelon players.
Slighter Asian Turnout
Although players from all around the world have always drawn to the WPT Australia Championship, this year’s Asian participation has been less than expected. Still, a few Asian competitors are generating stir in the event.
Together with China’s Quan Zhou and Malaysia’s Sean Ooi, Justin Chu from Taiwan is among the few Asian players who progressed to Day 2. Some well-known figures, including Eric Tsai and Shan Huang, were less lucky; they were eliminated before Day 2.
The road ahead: day two and beyond
The surviving 149 players will have another demanding day as the event moves into Day 2 on Sunday, September 22, 2024. Given just the top 50 assured a share of the prize pool, players will jostle for place in heated competition.
