WPT’s Legacy & Honors Mike Sexton

The World Poker Tour has come to represent world-class poker events since its start in 2002. Not only take home a sought-after trophy. It will also have a spot in the esteemed WPT Champions Club for the WPT tournament champions. In honor of the venerable WPT commentator and poker champion Mike Sexton, who passed away in September 2020. The WPT Champions Cup was changed in 2020 to the Mike Sexton WPT Champions Cup.

Sexton made enormous contributions to poker, and the WPT’s worldwide events help to preserve his legacy. Renaming the Champions Cup is evidence of his influence on the WPT community and the game.

Key Event Information: Dates, Buy-Ins, and Prizes

Comprising a $3,500 buy-in and a guaranteed prize pool of $1.5 million, the WPT Cambodia Championship will be the highlight of the 19-day celebration. As players fight for a cut of the rich prize pool and a chance at poker fame, this should draw elite talent from all around the world.

Complementing the Championship event, the WPT Prime Cambodia will run with a $1,101 buy-in and a $750,000 guaranteed prize pool. These events, along with the other competitions during the festival, create an amazing poker experience with large cash rewards on line.

“Our festivals at NagaWorld in Cambodia have created unforgettable events, from record-breaking turnouts to the Sexton Cup’s debut in Southeast Asia,” WPT CEO Adam Pliska said, clearly excited. Combining the reputation and scope of the WPT Cambodia Championship with WPT Prime Cambodia into one grand tournament excites us for even more unforgettable experiences.

The last WPT Cambodia series in NagaWorld in 2023 was rather successful. There were 1,011 competitors for the Mike Sexton WPT Champions Cup tournament; Reiji Kono of Japan came first and left with $131,731. With a total prize pool of $670,  the event is among the most competitive in the area.

In Mystery Bounty Event, success

Another noteworthy competition for Indian athletes was the WPT Cambodia 2022 Mystery Bounty event. Over two days, the tournament attracted 250 entrants with an $80,000 prize pool on offer. With a payoff of $7,850, Indian poker pro Kunal Patni placed fifth; Jasven Saigal came in sixth. Winning $4,190, Gaurav Sood rounded off the Indian contingent in eighth place.

Ankit Wadhawan (12th, $1,565), Dhaval Mudgal (18th, $1,130), Laksh Pal Singh (21st, $925), Ashish Munot (29th, $650), and Somashekhar KM (30th, $650) were other Indian players that cashed in on the WPT Cambodia festival. These outstanding results highlight India’s growing global poker talent even further.

Expectations for 2025

Growing excitement about Indian poker players’ involvement as the countdown to the 2025 WPT Cambodia Championship starts Although Indian players have a great history of success at international competitions, it is still to be seen how many will travel to Cambodia next year.

The WPT Cambodia Championship will surely draw a varied and gifted pool of players given its combined prize purse of around $3 million and more than 60 events on offer. For seasoned players and fresh talent, the event is a fantastic chance to create a name on the world poker scene.

Final Thought

The largest poker celebrations in Asia in 2025 is expected to be the WPT Cambodia Championship returning in 2025. Along with honoring Mike Sexton, this event looks to provide high-stakes excitement. There will be amazing poker moments by combining the WPT Cambodia Championship with WPT Prime Cambodia.

As players from all around the world fight for millions in rewards and fans excitedly await to see who will ascend to the top. Who will join the elite ranks of the WPT Champions Club, NagaWorld in February 2025 will be front and center.

Will Indian players carry on their winning run abroad? Just time will tell.
