Long considered one of the best poker rooms in Las Vegas, the Venetian Poker Room recently moved to a new, more handy position inside the resort. Attended by casino officials, recreational gamers, poker pros, and even musician Nelly, the grand opening was a star-studded event. With its contemporary conveniences and prominent location, the new site looks to improve the gaming experience.
A Grand Opening with Stars
The new Venetian Poker Room had a vibrant Thursday afternoon grand opening. Celebrating the occasion were notable poker players like Matt Berkey, Jamie Kerstetter, Maria Konnikova, and 2017 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event champion Scott Blumstein. The occasion started with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and then Tommy LaRosa, the manager of Venetian’s poker room, spoke, stressing the enhanced conveniences and amenities of the new site.
Originally located near the sportsbook and adjacent to the Las Vegas Boulevard exit, the poker room has since shifted to a more central location within the Grand Canal Shoppies between the Venetian and Palazzo casino floors. An escalator close to the Louis Vuitton store allows one to access the chamber quickly.
First-hand experience of the Ceremony
The ceremonial firsthand was turned over at about 4:30 p.m. local time. Special guests included Nelly, Kerstetter, Berkey, Farah Galfond, Blumstein, and Joey Ingram, along with casino officials made up the table. The hand became an eight-way all-in preflop in a flash of light-hearted enthusiasm, with just Kerstetter folding. As Berkey satirically pointed out on social media, “nit shaming” was forbidden.
Hundreds of players started to occupy the area after the ceremonial hand, keen to participate in the dozens of cash games on offer. Hosted by Berkey, Galfond, Kerstetter, and Jeremy Ausmus, the event also included a meet-up game drawing poker aficionados, including vloggers Jaman Burton and Landon Tice. As they toured the new area, guests savored complimentary hors d’oeuvres.
The New Room: Like yet unlike
With a similar blue felt and white rail color scheme, the new Venetian Poker Room first looks to be precisely like the adjoining Wynn Poker Room. To the joy of patrons like Allen Kessler, there are some significant variations, too, like distinctive carpeting and the comeback of a cherished feature—the self-serve soda machine and coffee station.
Venetian revealed intentions for the new poker room, which promised to be the biggest in Las Vegas, in February. Low and mid-stakes no-limit hold ’em, mixed games, pot-limit Omaha—among other games—are available in the 49-table facility. All players will indeed have an exciting experience in the space thanks to its modern design and roomy layout.
Events and Special Attributes
Hosting events like the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) and its trademark DeepStack Series, Venetian has long been a top venue for tournament poker. Running from Friday until September 15, the DeepStack Showdown Poker Series carries $2.4 million in guaranteed prize money, therefore upholding this legacy in the new poker facility. For tournament aficionados, one of the highlights is the $500,000 guaranteed MSPT event set for September 5–8.
The poker room is open around the clock and provides free non-alcoholic as well as alcoholic beverages to every patron. Playing cash games allows players to earn $3 per hour in comps, therefore motivating them to spend time at the tables. Anticipated to be operational at the end of the year, a new addition to the room is a specialized livestreaming studio. This function will let fans and players interact with the event in real-time, therefore improving the attraction of the venue.
The New Poker Room and How the Players Feel About It
The poker community had nothing but good things to say about the grand opening. An ambassador for PokerStars named Maria Konnikova was effusive in her enthusiasm for the new room’s design and services, highlighting the proximity of the adjacent restrooms. The accommodation is smoke-free, which is an essential feature for players who are sensitive to smoking, and she also welcomed its position away from the casino floor.
Joey Ingram was quite enthusiastic about the new room, praising its exciting ambiance and the fact that it might host exciting new events and bring about revolutionary changes to the Las Vegas poker scene. He thought the Grand Canal Shoppes venue was “underrated,” but he did mention that it frequently had huge crowds, which might be a sign of things to come for the poker room.
The new room’s architecture and amenities, such as the restrooms, drink station, and livestream studio, left an impression on Jon Friedberg, CEO of PokerAtlas. He gave the Venetian team high marks for making the poker room first-rate.
When asked to summarise the feeling, 2017 WSOP Main Event winner Scott Blumstein said, “It’s hard to argue that it gets any better than this.” A large number of players have expressed their admiration for the new poker room’s contemporary design, which has undoubtedly left a lasting effect on the poker community.
