Poker Pro Makes a Call for the Ages With Andrew Moreno

One of the most amazing events in poker this year took place in the Texas-based Lodge Card Club. Already a seasoned poker player with around $3.7 million in live tournament profits since 2021, Andrew Moreno added to his already remarkable CV with a call that stunned the live audience as well as internet watchers.

Though the event was full of high-stakes action and excitement, Moreno’s masterful head-up move left everyone talking. Faced against Collin Rountree for a $30,544 reward, Moreno’s almost impossible call has been hailed as pure poker genius.

Andrew Moreno: The Hand That stunned the Poker World

There was obvious intensity in the room during the last rounds of the event when just two players remained. With almost similar stacks, Moreno and Rountree created a high-tension scenario whereby every action counted. Starting with Moreno on the button holding Q♥ J♦, the hand started. He left himself with almost 2.1 million in chips after raising the large blind of 40,000 to 100,000. Holding J♠ 3♦, Rountree defended his large blind and the flop was dealt 10♥ 4♠ 6♠. Though neither player touched the board, the action was far from finished.

Uninterested on the flop, Moreno put a 180,000 continuation bet with just queen-high. But Rountree surprised everyone by check-raising to 530,000, therefore relieving his opponent of pressure. Rountree seemed to be expressing strength with a jack-high hand, but Moreno wasn’t readily moved. After some consideration, Moreno called the raise knowing his opponent was blustering.

The turn produced the 4♣, matching the board and adding further more complication to the circumstances. Both players chose to check, which produced a river card—K♣. By now both players had only high-card hands since it was obvious neither of them had hit anything significant.

Then arrived the event that will go down as poker historical. Seeking to close the transaction with force, Rountree went all-in for Moreno’s last 1.6 million chips. Sitting there with just queen-high, Moreno considered his alternatives deeply. He had to choose if Rountree was only trying to drive him out of the pot or really reflecting a solid hand.

What followed stunned the poker scene. Based on his gut feeling,  Andrew Moreno answered with simply queen-high. Properly deducing that Rountree was bluffing with an even poorer hand—jack-high. The audacious action got him the pot and, a few minutes later, the whole tournament.

A Professional Highlights for Moreno

For Andrew Moreno, who has had a series of outstanding tournament performances recently, this call was again another illustration of his remarkable poker sense. He is not new in his audacious felt moves. Andrew Moreno is still a major player in the poker scene having won $1.4 million in a $10,000 buy-in tournament at Wynn Las Vegas. But this call at The Lodge might rank among his most famous productions.

Moreno’s expertise and talent are shown in his capacity to remain cool under duress. Making the correct call under pressure is what distinguishes the good from the outstanding poker players, as everyone knows.

The Scene Heats Up at Lodge Poker

Co-owned by poker pros Andrew Neeme, Doug Polk, and Brad Owen, the Lodge Card Club has rapidly become among Texas’s most sought-after poker venues. Renowned for its energetic competitions and active poker scene. The Lodge has developed a distinction for organizing some of the most spectacular poker events anywhere.

The Lodge is likely to grow even more significant in the poker scene with its forthcoming development featuring a new site in San Antonio. Not only for the high-level poker activity but also for its extensive promos and events, the club has lately been generating waves.

Neeme and Owen will be holding a unique Meet-Up Game (MUG) at The Lodge on September 18, giving players the opportunity to engage with two of the most well-known poker celebrities. Furthermore, members may enjoy a $10 yearly membership cost, a major reduction that will definitely attract even more poker aficioners, from Sept. 18–22.

Not only that, but The Lodge will be offering a $100,000 freeroll on Sept. 19, giving members an amazing chance to win large without any buy-in. Promotions like these help to explain why The Lodge is still rather popular.

Reacts of the poker community to Moreno’s epic call

The poker scene exploded in conversation on Andrew Moreno call following the tournament. Many great pros and supporters praised his outstanding read and under pressure coolness on social media. Even weighing in, Kristy Arnett Moreno—herself a former PokerNews hostess—jokingly said that her husband’s bluff-calling techniques had left her “blocked.”

Additionally live on the webcast of the event, the call let people from all around to see the incredible moment as it transpired. For many, it served as a reminder of the reasons poker is such an exciting and erratic game—where even the tiniest choices may have major effects.

A Time to Remember

It will be difficult to surpass the thrills of Andrew Moreno’s amazing call at The Lodge as poker events run all year long. He is among the finest players in the game nowadays because of his situational awareness, gut feeling, and ability to produce a winning play in such a pivotal point.

For those who were there or viewing online, it was an event they will not soon forget. And for the rest of the poker community, it reminds us that occasionally, under pressure, brilliance can be discovered in the most unlikely locations.
