2010: David Vamplew
As the Grand Final of the newly formed UKIPT and the European Poker Tour (EPT) London Main Event, David Vamplew became the first champion of the 2010 UKIPT London Main Event. 848 players competed for the £4,112,800 first prize in this event, with a buy-in of £5,250. Vamplew won the top award of £900,000 after defeating John Juanda in a heads-up match. Vamplew rose to prominence on the live poker scene after his triumph. Having said that, he no longer plays competitively; his last cash was in February 2018. Vamplew has a Master’s in Financial Modelling and Optimisation and is now married.
2011: Benny Spindler
When the UKIPT London Main Event and the EPT London Main Event were merged again in 2011, Benny Spindler was the champion. Spindler won £750,000 after beating 690 other contestants. Spindler had spent more than $4.5 million in live tournament wins before he won, solidifying his status as a premier poker player. Having said that, he did not make another appearance in the poker world after his 2018 EPT Barcelona Main Event performance.
2013: Sergio Aido
By 2013, the buy-in for the UKIPT London Main Event had increased to £770, and Sergio Aido had won. Aido collected £144,555 at the UKIPT London. He had already established a name for himself in poker by winning the €1,650 WPT National Barcelona Main Event in October 2012 and finishing 17th at the EPT Prague Main Event in December 2012. During the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP), Aido won an incredible $2,026,506 in the $50,000 No-Limit Hold’em High Roller event. His outstanding poker career has included 30 six-figure cashes and five seven-figure scores.
2014: Brett Angell
After competing against 1,088 other players, Brett Angell took home £115,083 as the champion of the 2014 UKIPT London Main Event. Having won £80,000 in the 2011 UKIPT Nottingham Main Event, Angell had finished in second place three years prior. Angell plays in events in the UK, but he has recently cut down on his poker appearances to prioritize family life. Particularly noteworthy is that he emerged victorious in the 2019 Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) Leeds Main tournament and won a Grosvenor 25/50 tournament in Newcastle in January 2024.
2015: Rapinder Cheema
Following an arrangement with Fernando Marin of Spain, Rapinder Cheema took home £78,825 after winning the 2015 UKIPT London Main Event. Brett Angell, who came in seventh place a year after winning the event, also made Cheema’s final table. Cheema entered only once in November 2015, although five cashes in live events within a year of his UKIPT triumph. He seems to be playing under the radar or may have quit live poker.
2016: Usman Siddique
2015 saw Usman Siddique establish himself in the British poker scene, securing over a dozen cashes in his first year. Following his £1,101 Sky Poker UK Poker Championship payout in February 2016, Siddique joined the £770 UKIPT London Main Event in April. Eventually, he won a first-place reward of £84,101, surpassing prominent players such as Jack Hardcastle, David Docherty, and Jack Salter. Over the next six years, Siddique kept cashing in events worldwide; his last known payment came in December 2022.
2022: James Rann
Returning in April 2022 with a £1,100 buy-in was the UKIPT London Main Event. Rising to the top out of 645 players, James Rann claimed £86,569. Before his London triumph, Rann had already become known as a talented tournament player with significant live and online earnings. He is supposed to participate in the tournament’s 2024 version.
2023: Dylan Bradley
Just 22 years old, Dylan Bradley captured the 2023 UKIPT London Main Event title and brought home £71,650. His live poker career began strongly with this victory.
