Trocoli Shines at WSOP Colossus with an Amateur Journey to a $122K Payday

The 2025 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Colossus witnessed an extraordinary moment when amateur poker player Antonio Trocoli made his first-ever appearance at a final table, accompanied by his partner, UFC fighter Mackenzie Dern, and poker star Felipe Ramos, who cheered him on. Despite having only one previous live cash of $455 from the 2019 Brazilian Series of Poker, Trocoli’s experience at the WSOP was nothing short of spectacular.

Trocoli’s journey to the final table was marked by highs and lows, culminating in a dramatic climax during the heads-up battle. Despite being outmatched by seasoned professionals, he managed to pull off several key moments, including a thrilling double-up early in the tournament, to stay in contention for the grand prize.

The $500 Buy-In That Changed Everything.

Trocoli, with a buy-in of just $500, was now chasing the top prize of $542,540. After suffering a brutal beat earlier in the game, losing a massive pot to Ryan Leng, Trocoli seemed poised for a comeback. With only six big blinds left, he shoved with AK, but was met with a cold call from Ramaswamy Pyloore holding pocket aces. Despite the high stakes, Trocoli’s resolve never wavered.

When the flop came, it wasn’t in his favour, but the turn gave him renewed hope. Ultimately, the river failed to deliver, and Trocoli was eliminated in 6th place with a career-best payday of $122,330. The energy around the table, especially from the Brazilian rail, showed just how much Trocoli’s run meant to the players and fans alike.

The Rise of Courtenay Williams

While Trocoli’s exit left a void, the tournament continued with intense action, including a heartbreaking moment for Matt Glantz, who, after 25 years of chasing his first WSOP bracelet, was eliminated in 3rd place. The showdown was between Ramaswamy Pyloore and Courtenay Williams. Williams, with a previous best cash of $65,425 from 2016, was on the verge of making history.

In a tense heads-up match, the chip stacks were close, but everything came down to a massive 542 million chip flip between Williams and Pyloore. The defining moment came when Pyloore called Williams’ all-in on the turn. Unfortunately for Pyloore, the river sent him tumbling out of the tournament, and Williams clinched his first-ever WSOP bracelet.

The Incredible 1,000x Return

For Williams, the win was more than just a bracelet—it was a monumental 1,000x return on his $500 investment. His victory marks a turning point in the poker world, proving that even the most seasoned professionals aren’t always guaranteed the top prize. The amateur’s win in the WSOP Colossus is a testament to the unpredictability and excitement of poker at the highest level.
